How to talk to your child about feelings! As a parent, most agree that talking with your child about their feelings - especially during times of conflict can be very difficult, but is vitally important. In her new book, Ella's Inner Genie, Jacqueline Pirtle has created a sort of guide for parents, where they can invite their child to not only share how they are feeling, but to honor the power and validity of their own inner voice, and ultimately discover that everyone has an 'inner genie' (even parents)! There are prompts, practical suggestions and of course, no children's book would be complete without some built in creative opportunities for drawing and writing. All of this works so well to support the story of self-awareness and the happiness that comes when you and your inner voice are working hand in hand. The language and illustrations are geared towards the very young, but it's not hard to see how you could apply these talking points and ideas with older children as well.

A Wonderful Book for Children about Intuition! I love that Jacqueline Pirtle has written a children’s book about intuition that encourages youngsters to listen to their inner voice and be who they came to be. I also love that she encourages parents to respect and allow their children to follow their inner genie, honour their auras when making decisions, and help them realize that they possess infinite wisdom and can learn how to tap into it. This is vital to a child’s growth and development, yet I’ve never seen a children’s book with this subject matter before. So, for that, I give Pirtle big kudos. Elisa Brondolo’s illustrations in Ella’s Inner Genie are terrific. In addition, Pirtle has created an interactive workbook in the back of the book where she encourages kids to draw, think about her questions, and write their answers. This book is appropriate for third graders and will undoubtedly be enjoyed by children and parents alike.
